Kuzi Cee Turns Up the Nostalgia on New Single “Frequency”

Kuzi Cee is going back to the music that raised him. The Calgary R&B artist’s new single, “Frequency,” is out now via Universal Music Canada, and it’s his most direct tribute yet to the 2000s R&B he grew up on. Everything that made that era special is here: big drums, a hook that sticks after one listen, and a bridge with a key change.

The record fits Kuzi naturally. Raised between Zimbabwe and Calgary, the youngest of six grew up in a house full of music, from karaoke nights to instruments in every corner, with siblings who shaped his taste early. It’s a family that loves R&B, and “Frequency” has already won them over. Kuzi says it’s become the first song they request whenever he comes home for family functions.

AVOLA readers will remember Kuzi from our June editorial feature, which covered the release of “GIA.” In that story, Kuzi talked about the home that taught him vulnerability and how that openness runs through songs like “Rain,” “Rather Be,” and “Shot in the Dark.” At a time when a lot of music rewards keeping your distance, he keeps choosing honesty, and choosing love.

“Frequency” carries that same warmth, with a lighter touch. Where “GIA” leaned into reflection, this one is made for turning up the volume, singing along, and maybe hitting that key change with your whole chest.

Kuzi has spent the past few years building one of the most sincere catalogues in Canadian R&B. With “Frequency,” he shows he can honour where the sound came from while still making it his own.

“Frequency” by Kuzi Cee is available now on all streaming platforms.
