LA producer TATE SEDAR has released “Take It All Back,” his first single for Big Fish Recordings. The label played a key part in electro house’s early-2010s boom, putting out early music from Zedd, Lucky Date, and Porter Robinson. The track is led by a female vocal and opens in the jagged, maximalist electro house style known as complextro before switching halfway into drum & bass. It came out October 23.
For SEDAR, the release is a return to where he started. He came of age during that boom and fell for complextro, the label Porter Robinson famously gave his dense, chopped-up take on electro house via his MySpace page. He found Big Fish as a high schooler digging through YouTube and SoundCloud, so the label now carries some personal weight for him. Along the way he has shared stages with genre figures including Wolfgang Gartner, whom he has played alongside twice, and Cash Cash.
The song took a winding route to completion. In 2024, while rolling out his debut EP, SEDAR started a house and DnB hybrid for a planned collaboration. It used a stuttering vocal hook and nostalgic chords that built into a bass-heavy drop, and then it stalled. The collaborator never replied, and the demo sat untouched for a year. Then Laidback Luke reviewed it during his demo segment on Tomorrowland’s One World Radio, and Luke’s encouragement pushed SEDAR to finish it. He added pop guitars and hyperpop-style glitches, and he taught himself to produce drum & bass for the track’s second half.
Born in San Francisco, SEDAR grew up between both US coasts and spent seven years in London. He made his global debut on Insomniac’s EDC Virtual Rave-a-Thon in 2020 and has since passed 15 million plays. Five of his tracks have received radio support, and he has a place on Insomniac’s artist roster. He recently signed with Dim Mak and has shared lineups with R3hab, Don Diablo, Dada Life, Breathe Carolina, and more.
“Take It All Back” is out now via Big Fish Recordings.
